Nearly every day I see more of these stories...I wonder if this is like a fad? I'm sure these woman are aware of the consequences. So why chance it?
A married teacher in Maine accused of sleeping with a student was indicted Tuesday on a number of sexual assault charges.
Jill Lamontagne, 29, turned herself into authorities after she was indicted by a York County Grand Jury on six counts of gross sexual assault, two counts of unlawful sexual contact and six counts of abuse of a minor, the Portland Press Herald reported.
“The indictment was the culmination of an investigation into a relationship Lamontagne allegedly had with a juvenile, male student while she was a teacher at the school,” Kennebunk Deputy Chief of Police Michael Nugent said Wednesday, according to Seacoast Online.

Lamontagne allegedly had a relationship with the male student, 17, who was in her health class at the time of sexual contact.
An abuse order filed by the student’s mother in Biddeford District Court states the relationship between the teacher and boy was revealed when he was hospitalized following a suspected suicide attempt.

I don't think people change much thru the centuries. I think we are simply much more aware of what is going on. Technically, if we were fully aware of every pain and hurt in the world, we couldn't take it even for one minute. It isn't necessary to be omniscient, or feed the "bad news sells" machine.

I agree the news influences our perception but this is being reported because it is (for now) still news. The USA was a lot more puritanical even 50 years ago. A hundred years ago this would be a national scandal of titanic proportions. Not in this story but most of the woman caught with students are married and often have their own children. If we are only hearing about the ones being caught its hard to imagine how prevalent this must be. Makes me wish I was 13 and back in school. I think its fantasy control issue on the part of the woman. I would think any school boy getting 'lucky' would be wrapped around teacher very tightly. Maybe some teaching, mentoring and nurturing going on as well. I doubt its because the sex is great...
